The aim of this project was to develop species-specific standardized CPUE values for the top 12 non-target species by volume landed in the South African hake inshore trawl sector, using a per-trip analysis.

Biomass, catch, and inverse fishing pressure increased slightly, while fish lifespan & predator proportion declined significantly; trophic level and mean length showed minor declines.

Ecosystem issues remain inadequately addressed across sectors, highlighting the need for a formal “EAF Champion” and structured oversight to advance EAF.
