Aim:

Provide participants with a well-rounded understanding of an EAF and specifically what an EAF has so far entailed in South Africa, bringing them up to speed on current and emerging ecosystem issues and how these have been (or could be) addressed.

Results:

At present, overarching and inter-sectorial ecosystem issues, including those that have important cumulative impacts across sectors, are not being adequately dealt with (“falling between the cracks”). There is a need for a person, group or structure that would act as an “EAF Champion” to take an EAF onward. WWF could be a champion for this initiative, or in Government a formal position could be created falling directly under the DDG. Irrespective of who takes this on, there is need for a formal structure for overseeing research and management towards, and implementing of, an EAF.
