RFA Interview Series – Dr Johann Augustyn

Johann holds a PhD in Zoology from the University of Port Elizabeth and worked as a marine scientist for more than 20 years before being appointed as a fisheries manager, originally in the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, and later the Department of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries (DAFF). Prior to his appointment as secretary of SADSTIA, Johann worked as chief director of Fisheries Research and Development and chief director of Marine Resource Management at DAFF, gaining specialised knowledge of the ecosystem approach to fisheries and valuable experience in international fisheries fora, including the Committee on Fisheries of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO-COFI).
